I'm thinking this year I want something simple and close to home, I wouldn't mind a steak from Longhorns or even Chinese food. As long as I can taste what I'm eating, I'll be happy. There was one year that I did an open invite to everyone on my MySpace page, luckily everyone was too far away to come because the restaurant we chose was closed that particular evening.
Someone asked me if I ever give Terry a list of things I want for Christmas or my birthday and to be completely honest, I don't. When I was younger, I used to make lists for "Santa" and such but rarely got anything on the list so I gave up the practice...There was one Christmas that I swore that Santa hated me or I'd done something wrong that year that no one filled me in on. Once I got on my own and were I could buy for myself, I do. I really don't like to put people out on spending money on me, this doesn't really mean I don't want anything or a gift wouldn't be appreciated.
This year, the 2nd National Tour of Wicked will be at the Fox, I'd love for Terry to be able to see it. It's one of the only shows I've seen in recent years that he hasn't seen. I know he'd LOVE it and possibly more than all the others he's ever seen. Maybe that will be the birthday gift for both of us, considering his is so close to mine. I try not to involve tickets to shows as gifts though, there was one year that he bought me tickets to the Barnum and Bailey Circus and I sat there the entire time worried about the welfare of the animals. A few years later, he gave me tickets to Miss Saigon knowing that I love the show, everything about the show was amazing except for Kim Hoy, who played Kim...She was TERRIBLE and I felt that the person who cast her ruined my birthday gift. I felt like the money he was so excited to spend to make me happy was wasted thanks to crappy casting and there was no recourse so after that, I tried to avoid buying tickets as gifts. And a few days after i wrote this, I bought us tickets to Wicked.
Do I have a birthday gift want list? Not really. I do have a list of items I intend to buy this year though...maybe I'll receive them as gifts or maybe I won't. I have no expectations.
See a trend? Whether I get what's included on the links above, Wicked tickets or anything else or not, I will be no less happier than I was before I made an effort to make a list. I do, however expect a cake from Publix with actual buttercream (not that whipped crap) icing.
